Extra credit

My feeling about English 140 class. It is good class to take. At the beginning it was too difficult for me because it was totally different than my other classes. I felt really bad about this class. I thought that I am not going to pass it. The level will make you work as hard as you can. It has lots of work. I learned many things from E 140 class. I learned how to work hard and with team. I learned how to be a leader and how to be optimistic about everything. I would say for everyone is going to take this class. Don't give up never. It is going to be easier after it get harder. I think there is many things to improve E 140 class. The subjects should be related with the elder classes. The exams should be as same as the topic in smart curriculum. The student should be prepare for this class before the take it because it is not easy, but also show you the real class in the university how is going  to looks like. In the university you will listen to the professor and write note which you will learn in E 140 class. You will make a research about something than you will make your out line and APA reference which also you will learn in E 140 class. Overall, I learn a lot of things from this class. I got many friends who are more than friends they are like my family. I really enjoyed taking this class and I will miss everything about it.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 9 4/4

I took 27-8 quiz. It was about Verb tense and mood. It was so easy because I am quit good with grammar tense. There are some ex. Before Kate was three years old, she knew that there (are / were) nine planets in the solar system. The answer is the are choice because nine is plural and we use are with plural. I had two mistakes the first one is Our neighbor stood at the door looking so pale and ashen that we thought he (just saw / had just seen) a ghost. I thought the answer is just saw because it is kind of familiar for my tongue, but I was wrong because the past perfect tense is required for an action already completed by the time of another past action. The second mistake was Toni could be an excellent student if she (wasn't / weren't) so distracted by problems at home. I chose wasn't because the pronoun she, but I forget that with the conductional we use were with she, he and it.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 9 3/4

I took 27-6 quiz. It was about something than I have never heard about, which was Standard English verb forms. I learned new vocab which was misconceptions from this sentence" Many Americans have misconceptions about American Sign Language, also called ASL. Until the 1960s, the use of sign language was (ban / banned) in most American classrooms. " and the meaning is as same as misunderstanding, and the answer for this question is banned. A deaf child (was / were) expected to learn to lip-read to be more like a hearing child. The answer was was. I noticed after the second ex that this quiz is testing your English skills and most of the question is going to be about past simple. Because of this ban, some deaf Americans were not able to learn any language thoroughly when they (was / were) young. I chose were because of the pronoun they.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 9 2/4

27-4 was my second quiz for this week. I felt before I start that it is going to be easy but I was wrong. It was about Irregular verbs. Here is some examples for this quiz. How many times have you (swore / sworn) to yourself, "I'll diet tomorrow, after one more piece of cheesecake"? I chose sworn because this question is present perfect which is have\ has + V3 and the verb is swear, swore and sworn. The tutor was satisfied that Max had (wrote / written) a fairly intelligent essay. I also chose written because this sentence is using past perfect grammar which is had + V3 and the V3 for write is written. As I said I thought it is going to be easy quiz, but I was wrong because it wasn't just easy it was too easy for me. This quiz remind me about many perfect grammar that I almost forget it.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 9 1/4

26-3 was my first quiz for week 9. It was about Adjectives and adverbs. I know pretty much about this subject. I got 10 out of 10. There are some ex. Few city dwellers have a hard time deciding whether cockroaches or rats are (worse / worst). The answer as I Minchin is worse because it's comparing only two items, yet we use the other choice when we compare with more than one like one student between 100. Most city rats are Norway rats; they came on ships from Europe, and their numbers grew very (quick / quickly). I chose quickly because very is adjective in this sentence so quickly should be adverb. City rats, in contrast, have done quite (good / well) at adapting to urban environments. I chose well because it is common adverb to use with sentence like this and It modifies the verb have done.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 8 4/4

I took 13-5 quiz. It was about Shifts: person and number. It was normal quiz not too hard. The first question was so easy ex. After the summer's drought had dried up the water in the woods around our town, (we , you) began to see skunks everywhere. I knew the answer is we because they said our town which the sentence after the comma must be we. If they said your them town the next sentence is going to start with they. I also learned new word which was skunks. It is a small black-and-white North American animal that produces a very strong and unpleasant smell when it is frightened or in danger. The questions were about skunks. I had a mistake which was misunderstanding for me. The question was When a skunk is desperate, they show little fear, Or When a skunk is desperate, it shows little fear. I chose the first one because I felt in my mind it is right, but I was wrong because The sentence shifts from the singular skunk to the plural they.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 8 3/4

I did 12-3 quiz. It was about Misplaced modifiers. It was hard quiz. I start my quiz with mistake. The mistake was "At our warehouse sale, cash, MasterCard, or Visa will only be accepted. At our warehouse sale, only cash, MasterCard, or Visa will be accepted." I thought the first one is the right answer because only fit in it, but I was wrong and I knew that The limiting modifier only should come just before the words it modifies: only cash, MasterCard, or Visa. I got the second one right, but I don't know what does anorexic or bulimic means in the sentence Not all thin people are anorexic or bulimic. Overall, I think the quiz is more about understanding English language more than modifiers because I mention that the answers comes to my mind with out knowing the grammar.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 8 2/4

I took 25-2 quiz. It was about who and whom. I knew from an experience that whom is more formal and we use it with question at the most and with writing like essay or journalism, but who is more casual we use it when we speak with someone also with texting with friends sometimes. The quiz was too easy. I had example for using whom with question like " In his first production of Hamlet, (who /whom) did Laurence Olivier replace?" There is also an example for using who "Houdini's skills were so great that even those of us (who / whom) knew how he performed his arts were often amazed." Overall whom is more formal than who. Who it uses with friend but whom with family or someone you respect more. We use who with speaking and sometimes with writing, but whom with writing and usually comes with question.

ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 8 1/4

I just finish 23-3 quiz. It was extremely hard for me. I didn’t understand it at all. It was about Pronoun reference. I just guessed most of the answers. Some of them was more accurate sentence than the other such as ”Modeling agencies tend to hire extremely thin models because clothing drapes well on thin bodies .In modeling agencies, they tend to hire extremely thin models because clothing drapes well on thin bodies. I think the start in the first sentence is better and the world in is not necessarily in the second one. I had some mistake in some part such as If her body is meant to be thin, a woman does not need to starve herself to keep it that way. If a woman's body is meant to be thin, she does not need to starve herself to keep it that way. My answer which is the black one was wrong. I knew that The pronoun she cannot refer to a possessive noun functioning as a modifier, in this case woman's.
