ENGL140 -ALNASHMI, Abdulraouf - Week 5 2/4

I took 44-2 quiz. It was about The hyphen. It was difficult. I got full mark because I was lucky, but i didn’t understand anything. They wanted us to choose the right sentence between two sentences. The first one was Officer Boomer was knocked to the ground by the recoil. His still smoking gun went spinning down the alley or Officer Boomer was knocked to the ground by the recoil. His still-smoking gun went spinning down the alley. Because a hyphen should be used to connect two words functioning together as an adjective before a noun. The second one was We were embarrassed when our uncle bragged about being a self made millionaire or We were embarrassed when our uncle bragged about being a self-made millionaire. Because a hyphen should be used with the prefix self-. The third was Over the years, several well known politicians have taught part time at George Washington University or Over the years, several well-known politicians have taught part time at George Washington University. I knew that well-known always should be with -. The fourth was  The quietly purring cat cleaned first one paw and then the other before curling up under the stove or The quietly-purring cat cleaned first one paw and then the other before curling up under the stove.
